A Successful Year

As we come to the end of this very successful year for the club, mention must be made of the very generous sponsorship that we received from local businesses and individuals over the past 12 months. Our club would not survive without the on-going support of local people. Year after year, our sponsors have been the life-blood of this club and have played a major part in the progression of the club. The club is 21 years in existence, and over that time the club has gone from strength to strength. Once again this year we have had major success at both Provincial and National level. This would not be possible without the support of our community.
Thanks to the very hard work and commitment of some of our members, which is all done on a voluntary basis, our course is in sublime condition. The amount of hard work that goes into the maintenance of the course has to be seen to be believed and should be acknowledged by all our members.

Dungarvan Town Council has been of great support to the club in 2011. Even in these times of limited resources, the Council have done their best to give us whatever help they can, and we are extremely grateful for this ongoing support.

To all our Sponsors, Members and Supporters, have a very
Merry Christmas
and
Happy New Year!

2011 AGM Report

The 2011 AGM took place on Sunday, December 11th. The well attended meeting heard Chairman Martin Shanahan give a synopsis of his first year at the helm of the club. A Little Goes A Long Way

Pictured above are 6 young Ethiopian pupils whose school uniforms were bought from the proceeds of a Ladies midweek competition which was donated by the Cunnigar Ladies.

As we all know, Amy O’Neill (Mary O'Neill's daughter),  is working in Ethiopia assisting with the educational needs of children in this very deprived area of East Africa. Eager to help in our own little way, we held a fundraising competition last year. The proceeds of this fundraiser were used to buy desks for the school that Amy is involved with.

Recently, when Amy was back home in Ireland, Breda O'Donnell (Lady Captain) gave Amy the proceeds of one of the midweek competitions. This small gesture on behalf of the Cunnigar Ladies enabled the school to provide uniforms for the young pupils pictured above. Fantastic!!
This is what Betty (the Ethiopian lady who works at the school) wrote on the back of the photograph.

The late T.F. McCarthy

T.F. McCarthy – An Appreciation
(By Cáit Mulcahy)

As President of the Cunnigar Pitch and Putt Club, and on behalf of all the members, I wish to express my sincerest sympathy to all the McCarthy family on the passing of T.F. As the news filtered through of the death of T.F. on the morning of October 12th, a great sense of sadness descended on the club. We had lost one of our longest serving and valued members and indeed a dear friend. T.F joined the Club in 1995, and over the years, held the positions of both President and Chairperson many times, and had done so in an exemplary manner. He also served on the Waterford Pitch and Putt County Board, and was the current Chairman. Our club went from strength to strength under his leadership. Francis worked tirelessly on the upkeep of the grounds, greens and fairways, and was instrumental in the construction of the much talked about 18th green. One of his greatest achievements was the securing of grants to erect security fencing around the perimeter of the course, which put an end to the vandalism we had endured over the years. Francis held great pride in achieving this project. His interest in both juvenile and adult pitch and putt proved T.F a most popular and enthusiastic club member right up to his untimely passing. Cunnigar Pitch and Putt Club has truly lost a loyal and worthy member.
