Volunteers Needed

As our club is having its Scratch Cup on the 28th September this year, it would be nice to have the course looking as good as it possibly can. All members are asked to come forward to help out with some course maintenance duties i.e. weeding, sweeping, cleaning etc. Even an hour here and there would be very much appreciated, and it would take the pressure of the few people who do most of the work at the club.

There is spectacular work being done on the course which people do not realise, the course is in spectacular condition from the greens to the fairways to the work done on the drainage to give our members and visitors some wonderful games of pitch and putt.

"We all know them, the people who are out swishing the greens first thing in the morning, closing the gate last thing at night, in between they collect green fees, make coffee for those visitiors from a neighbouring club. cut the greens and fairways, trim the bunkers and ditches, paint the tee boxes, remove the broken tees, change the holes, drive the machinary helping with the drainage. They then turn their attention to the clubhouse and clean the kitchen, mop the floor, make sure all the delft and cutlery are clean, check there is plenty tea, coffee and biscuits and, of course, make sure that the toilets are all ship shape and clean.

They will be the people staggering under the weight of trays of soft drinks, every month their cars will be crammed with crisps, chocolate and minerals as they scout for bargains in the local supermarket.

After that they move to competitions and registrations and make sure that all the entries are on time.

Come the week of the Club Scratch Cup they will be there to fill in on the book when necessary and their card checking and score recording are legendary. Then to crown it all when A.G.M time comes around and the members are battering the ditches to press gang any and everyone for just one year they are always the     OLD RELIABLES

Do all those tasks strike a chord with you?

Are you in fact one of those unknown members? If so take a bow because, without you and the help of Miroslaw, Darren, John and the Council nobody would ever be presented with a prize because the Club would grind to a halt. 

If however you are one of those who look on and grumble and never volunteer then maybe it is time you did.  This game can give enormous pleasure but it also carries responsibilities.  Help out if and when you can and reduce the load on the 

                            UNKNOWN MEMBERS."

Course Improvements

Phenomenal is the only word to describe the work that has been carried out at the club over the past few months. The playing course is as good a course as one would find anywhere in the country and is a testament to everyone who has put in this monumental effort this year. The planting and maintenance of the flower beds is a sight to behold and the painting and the new signage at the front of the clubhouse is superb.The new shelters are also a fantastic addition to the course.

 As you approach the course from Boreenatra, what confronts you now is nothing less than an aesthetic gem. The whole facade of the club has been transformed and is a credit to everyone involved. Very Well Done!!

Hollow Tine - Job Done

 

Thanks to everyone who helped with the work on the course this week!

 From start to finish, it only took two and a half days to hollow tine 24 greens and sweep 3 coatings of sand into them afterwards. It was great to see the effort that was put in all week, especially from the new members! Thanks also to the ladies who looked after the catering.

Course Improvements

Members and visitors alike cannot have failed to notice the improvement works currently being carried out on our greens. Once again, when needed, the same people as always have stepped up to the plate and volunteered to carry out the work. This work is all being done to improve the course for everyone and more volunteers would be much appreciated. A club such as ours can only survive by constantly striving to improve, and this means a collective effort by all of our members. I must avail of this opportunity to express our appreciation of the invaluable support we are receiving this year from Waterford Leader Partnership under the Tús initiative which provides short term working opportunities for local people and also benefits local community groups.
