Cunnigar Scratch Cup Results and Pictures

Our major event of the year, The Cunnigar Scratch Cup, took place last Saturday, September 3rd. This competition, which is very generously sponsored every year by Lawlors Hotel, Dungarvan, attracted some top class players to our well prepared course. Despite a damp start to the day’s play, the weather cleared up and the quality of scoring was exceptional. The eventual winner, Eddie Hennessy from Ashgrove, carded a phenomenal 18 under par on his first 2 rounds. Despite a late comeback in the play-off round by Paudie O’Sullivan from Claycastle, Eddie held his game together and took the trophy (which he also won in 2009). Our own player, Michael Delaney, showed his class on the day also by finishing in 3rd place (which was a very popular result). Three other Cunnigar players were successful in their grades. Andy Keoghan prevailed in the Intermediate Gents, Aiden O’Rourke won the Junior Gents and Breda O’Donnell was victorious in the Ladies (10-18).

In his address to the very large gathering at the prize-giving presentation, our Chairman, Martin Shanahan, thanked all our visitors for making the day a great success. He also thanked Lawlors Hotel for the generous sponsorship that they provide annually to host this event. He also praised the Cunnigar volunteers who had the course in ship-shape condition. Sheila and the ladies in the kitchen were also singled out for the excellent hospitality that was provided for everyone.
