Lorraine Troy Wins at Claycastle Scratch Cup

Many congratulations to Lorraine Troy (Cunnigar), who notched up a fantastic win at the Claycastle Scratch Cup in Youghal on Sunday, March 31st. Despite the atrocious weather conditions and the testing course that is Claycastle, Lorraine put in a stellar performance to claim the Ladies Prize on the day. Well done from everyone here at Cunnigar Pitch and Putt Club!

Results of Motor Neurone Fundraising Tournament April 1st

 

Despite the Siberian weather conditions that prevailed on Easter Monday, we had a great turnout for this fundraiser for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association(IMNDA).

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association  is the primary support organisation in Ireland providing care for people with Motor Neurone Disease, their families, friends and carers and was a very worthy recipient of the proceeds of this tournament.

Update on teams for Inter Club Competition

 Our club will be entering teams in the Ladies Competition, and in the Gents Intermediate-Junior Combined Competition. We can enter unlimited Ladies teams, but only one Gents team. Any Ladies who wish to play are asked to contact Jacinta O’Mahoney or Mary O’Neill. As there will be only one Gents team, this team will be selected on the basis of a series of trials which will take place over the next couple of weeks. Anyone who wishes to be considered for these trials is asked to enter his name on the sheet that is posted in the clubhouse. The inter-club competition will be taking place at weekends, and will involve travelling to other clubs. Members are urged not to put their names forward if they will be unavailable at weekends. This competition commences on the weekend of 20th, 21st April.

Juvenile Pitch and Putt

 

This year promises to be a very exciting year in Juvenile pitch and putt, so all interested girls and boys are encouraged to submit their membership applications as soon as possible, and have a great year playing our sport. The course will be open for green fees during the Easter Holidays. Leave the X-box and Playstation alone on the fine days, get the clubs out, and come down to us for a game!

Tus Community Work Placement Scheme - a great success

The first two participants in the Tús scheme are coming to the end of their work placement with us. Without a doubt, this scheme has been of tremendous benefit to our club. We were lucky to have attained the services of two outstanding workers, who have greatly contributed to the standard of our course and clubhouse. We can only hope that the next Tús participants will have the same work ethic that Rob and Noel possess. All in all, they did a marvelous job while they were with us, and we must say a big thank you to Mr. Vincent Mernin (Tús Supervisor), who arranged the placement. 

Synopsis of National Convention

The following is a brief synopsis of the PPUI National Convention which took place at Athlone Springs Hotel on Saturday February 25th 2013

The Anti-Discrimination motion, proposed by Cunnigar, 
was passed.



Some of the changes that were made to our game last weekend are set out below

The Handicap Structure has been Changed. 

Handicaps in all grades have been changed by one point i.e. 

Men's Senior Grade is now +3 to -2.

Men's Intermediate Grade is now-3 to -7. 

Men's Junior Grade is now -8 to -15.
Ladies Senior Grade is now scratch to -5.

Ladies Intermediate grade is now -6 to -11. 

Ladies Junior Grade is now -12 to -18.

Handicap increases(Shots Back) can now be applied for twice a year There are certain conditions attached to these applications.

The Juvenile system is being drastically changed. It will revert back to under 18. There will be a 2 year transition period to complete this change. The NEC has committed to assist all  clubs during this transition, and to put in place the neccessary safeguards for both Juvenile and Adult players.

Pitch marks off the green can now be repaired during play.

The 3 club motion was defeated.

Our neighbours, Claycastle Pitch and Putt Club, were awarded the title of Club of the Year, and many congratulations to them for this outstanding achievement.

I'm sure more details about all the above will be available in the very near future.

Unveiling of TF McCarthy Memorial Plaque January 27th

 

 

 

The sun actually appeared for a short while, although the wind was bitterly cold, for the unveiling of a Memorial Plaque to honour the memory of the late, great, T.F. McCarthy. In front of a large gathering, which included TF’s daughter Olga, grandson Fergus, and nephew Conor Lannen, our club President, Mary O’Neill, in a heart-warming speech, reminded everyone of the massive influence that TF had on the success of our club. Mary spoke glowingly of his great love of our sport, his unique way of influencing people in high places, his excellent use of the media to promote pitch and putt, and, amongst a lot of other things, his un-tiring efforts in acquiring substantial funds to purchase and erect the security fence which now completely surrounds the perimeter of the course.

 

She also thanked the club members who helped out to prepare for the unveiling of the plaque. She sincerely thanked Phillip Connors who crafted the beautiful plaque and who very generously donated it to the club.

 

It was only fitting that the unveiling was done by Corinne McGee, who worked tirelessly with TF over the years in bringing our club up to the standard that prevails today.

 

The memorial plaque says it succinctly-----“Gone but not forgotten”
