Sports notes

Here the notes for the week

All Ireland  Inter Club  At Fermoy Pitch and Putt
Cunnigar runners up

The 2025 National Interclub Pitch and Putt Tournament culminated today in a thrilling final, where Bruff Club captured their first-ever title. Bruff, who were runners-up in the 2023 event, achieved a historic win that marks a landmark moment for the club. In the final, Bruff faced off against Cunnigar Club and came from behind, having been two to one down after the foursomes, to secure a spirited 6-3 victory in the singles. Throughout the tournament, Cunnigar proved themselves to be the Cinderella story. Competing without a full senior player, the club defied all expectations to reach their first final, showcasing remarkable skill and determination along the way. Their impressive run included a semi-final upset against the strong Lucan 2 team, where they staged a comeback from two-one down in the four balls to win by the same 6-3 scoreline.

Bruff’s route to the final was equally dramatic, as they overcame a strong Riverdale side in a close 5-4 semi-final. Bruff took a two-one lead after the four balls, and managed to keep their advantage through the singles matches, ultimately booking their place in the final. In qualifying play yesterday, Cunnigar surprised many by topping the leaderboard, finishing 27 under par and securing the #1 seed position, tied with Bruff, who also posted 27 under. Riverdale was close behind with 26 under, and Lucan 2 followed with 22 under par.

The 2025 tournament, expertly hosted by Fermoy Club, benefited from exceptional playing conditions and meticulous organization, further strengthening its reputation as the premier event in the pitch and putt club team calendar. The standard of play demonstrated by all teams was impressive and once again proved that clubs from all backgrounds and levels can compete at this stage. This year's event will be remembered for Bruff’s unforgettable triumph, Cunnigar’s remarkable journey as underdogs, and the outstanding quality and spirit shown by every participant, underscoring the vibrancy, competitiveness, and inclusive nature of the sport.
Needless to say the Men dif the Cunnigar Pitch and Putt Club Proud.
