Here are the notes for the week National Ladies Strokeplay Hosted at the Cunnigar August 15th & 16th August . LADIES NATIONAL STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 Three defending champions. Three titles to defend. One exciting weekend of Pitch & Putt! Chrissie Byrne (Ryston), Mairead O’Toole (St Bridget’s) and Charlotte Blake (Tralee) return to defend their respective Senior, Intermediate and Junior National Strokeplay titles at Cunnigar Pitch & Putt Club this weekend. 📅 Saturday 15 August Junior & Intermediate Ladies – 36 holes 📅 Sunday 16 August Senior Ladies – 36 holes Final 18 holes for all three grades on Sunday afternoon 📺 Live coverage will be available on Sunday, with further details to follow. The Cunnigar welcomes 84 competitors from over 30 clubs . Coming from Newry down to Tralee . The competition is divided into three grades. Seniors -24 players playing on Sunday Intermediate - 30 players on Saturday Juniors - 32 Players play on Saturday All ladies will play 36 holes and complete for a spot in the final round , 12 players in each grade. ,will qualify,and it's all to play for for the titles. It's going to be a fantastic weekend of Ladies Pitch and Putt.. There will be live coverage though the following link . The Cunnigar club has 10 competitors Lorraine Troy Senior Grade, who was declared Best Nett winner in the 2021 championship at Tullamore. Lorraine claimed the Munster Junior Strokeplay title at this weekend’s venue in 2013. Mary o Neill Junior Grade, The sole host course representative in the championship is Mary O’Neill, who will draw strength from happy memories of the 2010 National Junior Strokeplay championship at Cunnigar, which she won by four strokes from her clubmate Corinne McGee. In the Junior Grade we have Eight Competitors The host club is represented by no fewer than eight of the 32 starters. Kay Wade, a prize winner in provincial Social Scramble tournaments. First home player into action will be 2005 Munster Strokeplay runner-up Corinne McGee, who ran MaryAnne Byrne very close in the 2022 National Junior Strokeplay championship at Fermoy four years ago. Corinne had previously been runner-up in the championship in 2010 (at Cunnigar). Josephine Tobin was National Mixed Foursomes runner-up last year, when playing out of Lakeside. Marie Forde claimed third place in the 2016 Munster Strokeplay championship at Hillview and won the provincial Ladies Social Day in 2024 at Larkspur Park. Julie Kiely picked-up a silver medal in the 2025 Munster Strokeplay championship while Evelyn Torrens won the 2023 Munster Ladies Social tournament. 2025 .Munster Matchplay champion Michelle O’Connell has capitalized hugely on Cunnigar’s transfer to Cork jurisdiction by lifting the 2026 Leeside Strokeplay and Matchplay trophies. The local line-up is completed by Bridget Broderick, another loyal and successful participant in National and provincial social tournaments. National Gents Strokeplay This was held on the 8 th & 9 th August in Tullamore and Killbeggan . We were well represented by Stephen Donovan Intermediate and Aidan o Rourke Reserve , in the Junior Grade by Gerard o Brien . Well done to Stephen Donovan who qualified for the final round , the Top 20 , Stephen went on to play the final round ., where Stephen Donovan placed 12th in the Gents National Strokeplay Championship Intermediate Grade . Name, telephone number, date and amount to be written on the envelope please PLEASE NOTE: Anyone bringing in green fees without paying will automatically have their fob turned off, no exceptions to this rule. Pitch Marks Leaving pitch marks when playing destroys the greens. It takes a lot of care and attention to keep them in pristine condition, so all members and green fees are asked to repair them and use the correct repairer when doing so. Do not use club heads to repair a pitch mark as this damages the green. Always use a pitch repairer. Also do not use the club head to take balls out of holes on greens as this damages the hole. Course Etiquette Treat your fellow players with respect at all times. NEVER walk away from the green when the game has finished, always acknowledge your playing partner. Always show respect for the course and other players by not making noise, especially when they are playing their shots. The only time you are allowed to shout is when you are shouting FORE. When you see you are delaying the play of those coming behind, allow them to play through. MANNERS COST NOTHING.
